But to go ahead in life, one needs to look back. If you want to walk the path of longevity, you need to focus on the individuals who have already walked the path.
As you study these people, you will find that a long, healthy and happy life is not possible without proper detoxification.
Myth About Detoxification
Once, a friend asked me how I should detoxify, what types of juices and drinks should I consume to detoxify my body? My answer was simple: just stop drinking every day, and your body will detoxify.
Everybody started laughing at this, but this is true about the people who are heavy and regular drinkers. They don’t need to indulge in anything; they just need to stop indulging alcohol and their body starts detoxifying like a baby’s body.
What Is Detoxification?
Detoxification is not something that we have to deliberately do it by going through intense diets. Our body detoxifies on a daily basis. When we urinate, defecate, or perspire, our body is getting detoxified. Isn’t it?
The question then arises as to why there is so much buzz about various detoxification processes. We live in a commercial world and everything that can get attention can make money, so various organizations & institutions start creating buzz around it.
Then again question arises, if all the different detoxification processes are genuine or not. In my opinion and experience, there are many methods that help body detoxify in a very effective way.
In this article, we are specifically focusing on basic detox practices an average person can do for longevity.

Why We Need To Detoxify?
Our body, on a daily basis, detoxifies. However, due to various lifestyle reasons, most people’s bodies do not execute the process effectively.
Let us understand this with a very brief example. Someone had dinner late at night at a family function. Next day the bowel movement of the body is different from the regular days. As the person had something in dinner which is heavy on digestion.
Now the body naturally detoxifies itself. So, the chances are that the person’s body may defecate twice the next day or maybe once but a little later than the usual daily time.
But the person is getting late for the office, and so the body does not get a chance to detoxify. Many such situations lead to the storage of toxins within the body.
Shatkarma & Panchakarma
If you are a seasoned yogi, you know what Shatkarma is. If you are a little aware about ayurveda, you know what Panchakarma is. Both processes were designed thousands of years ago to detoxify the body in a very scientific and effective way.
Hatha yogis have been practicing Shatkarma for a very long time. I myself do Shatkarma on a daily basis. Cutting long story short, these processes remove toxins from the body and balance Vatta, Pitta & Kapha.
A person with a balanced Vatta, Pitta & Kapha will always live a very long, healthy and happy life. He or she will have a glowing face, good posture, and lively presence.
Shatkarma must be learnt from an adept yogi. I myself teach only to a select group of students. However, an average guy can do Panchakarma treatments at treatment centers.
Shatkarma is very advanced and used only by advanced meditators. However, panchakarma is designed for regular people. This itself will give a lot of benefits to the individual.

Shatkarma literally means six actions. However, there are many different types of Shatkarma in Hatha Yoga. I often teach it to my students if they need it and if they want it.
I taught the proper method of Vamana to two of my students. Both of them were from business backgrounds. One runs a chain of saloons, and the other is a marketing executive.
The experience they share is that after doing it in the morning, the meditation followed immediately feels very deep and relaxing. Throughout the day, the dealings with customers become effortless. They are more aware, energetic and focused throughout the day.
One other student was suffering from endometriosis, and because of this she was suffering from extreme constipation, which was taking a huge toll on her daily life. I taught her a very advanced and secretive method that would help her get detoxified properly on a daily basis.
How Detoxification Increases Longevity?
Everything has an expiry date. In Hatha Yoga and other internal arts, it is known that the fewer natural breaths per minute an organism have, the longer the organism’s life will be.
When the body effectively detoxifies on a daily basis, the bodily functions work effortlessly. Just observe whenever you can; when you have eaten a lot, your breath becomes heavy. When you feel constipated, your breath is heavy. But when your bowels are clean properly, your breath is different. You will feel lighter and more relaxed.
Hatha yogis are known to live a very long life. They are sanyasis, which means they do not indulge in marriage and other social responsibilities.
However, the sansaris have always used such practices and lived a long and happy life. Not as long as hatha yogis but long enough.
Marma
There are also many cases where the person is doing various Yogasanas and pranayama regularly, but dies with heart attack. That is true but there can be many reasons behind this.
In my observation, the major reason behind this is that most of the people have no idea what they are doing. They think yoga is very basic thing that one can learn in a park from a one-month-old teacher or someone in a television.
Yoga is about watching and learning from your own energies. However, if one learns yoga from a true yogi, one can dramatically change one’s life. How many years will one live, no one can know for sure.
However, from my experience as a life coach and as a student of life I can say one thing for sure: by doing proper detox you will feel more alive, alert, focused, hopeful and energetic. What more you want?
